'Cruel' Models Bully Kendall Jenner During Fashion Week

Noted novelist and high fashion model Kendall Jenner (oops I mean just "Kendall" now) did not have a very good time at New York's Fashion Week, you guys. According to an "insider" (who is most definitely not some bored intern or P.A.) apparently some very 'cruel' models were extra super mean to poor, downtrodden and outcast Kendall, the Ma Joad of fashion modelling. Lisa Coleman became the fifteenth American woman to be executed since 1976 when she was given a lethal injection in Texas on Wednesday evening for her role in the starvation death and torture of her partner's nine-year-old son.
The US supreme court rejected Coleman's final appeal for a stay earlier in the day. That cleared the path for the 38-year-old to be put to death using compounded pentobarbital from a supplier that Texas has refused to disclose, amid questions about its expiration date and quality.

Artificial sweeteners may promote diabetes, claim scientists

Artificial sweeteners may contribute to soaring levels of diabetes, according to a controversial study that suggests the additives could exacerbate the problem they are meant to tackle.
Researchers in Israel found that artificial sweeteners used in diet drinks and other foods can disrupt healthy microbes that live in the gut, leading to higher blood sugar levels – an early sign of diabetes.
Sweeteners such as saccharin, aspartame and sucralose are widespread in western diets and are often used to cut calories or prevent tooth decay. The additives are so common that scientists behind the latest study called for a reassessment of the “massive usage” of the chemicals.

12 Nigerian soldiers sentenced to death for mutiny

 

The military authorities  Tuesday  morning sentenced 12 soldiers to death for mutiny.

The soldiers were charged with six count of criminal conspiracy to commit mutiny, disobeying lawful orders and various acts said to be inimical to the military service.

The nine-member all military Court Martial, also found the soldiers guilty of insubordinate behavior, use of abusive language, leveling false accusation against their superior officers, among others.

They were similarly found guilty of attempting to kill their erstwhile General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Major General Ahmed Mohammed by shooting at his official car, between May 13 and 14, 2014. The car was bullet proof.

Pilots are protesting cost-cutting measures

A weeklong workers strike that began Monday has caused Air France to cancel over half of all its flights, as pilots protest cost-cutting measures.
Six out of 10 flights were canceled, Reuters reports, with similar cancellations expected in the days to come. Pilots are striking to protest the airline’s expansion of its low-cost operations.
Air France announced last week a plan to move much of its operations in Europe to the company’s cheaper subsidiary, Transavia, and base some flights out of foreign countries to save approximately $1.3 billion, the Associated Press reports. Pilots claim the airline is moving jobs outside of France in order to pursue cheaper taxes and cheaper labor.
Another, briefer pilots strike was planned for the German airline Lufthansa but was ultimately called off. Many European carriers have been forced to restructure and adjust their business models as they face competition from cheaper rivals.

Judge In Pistorius Trial Faces Criticism

(JOHANNESBURG) — Several legal groups in South Africa have expressed concern about threats and harsh criticism of the judge who found Oscar Pistorius guilty of culpable homicide, but not guilty of the more serious charge of murder.

Some South Africans said they were surprised and even shocked when Judge Thokozile Masipa ruled last week that the Paralympic champion was negligent but did not intend to kill when he fatally shot girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp through a closed toilet door. Pistorius said he thought a dangerous intruder was in his house; prosecutors alleged he intentionally killed Steenkamp after an argument.
Police protection for Masipa has been stepped up since the verdict Friday in the sensational case, South African media reported. The case will return to the global spotlight when Pistorius, who is free on bail, appears before the judge for a sentencing hearing on Oct. 13.

Not familiar with telomeres? They are the protective caps made of DNA and protein that sit on the end of chromosomes and try to stop damage during cell division. They affect how long cells live, with shorter telomeres being linked to diseases related to ageing, such as heart disease, many cancers, diabetes, obesity and strokes. Researchers are hypothesising that developing longer telomeres may be a mechanism by which standing up delivers a longer, healthier life.

Walking or cycling to work 'improves wellbeing'

 

Switching from driving a car to walking or cycling to work improves our well-being, a study suggests.

Active commuters felt better able to concentrate and under less strain than when travelling by car, University of East Anglia (UEA) researchers said.
Even going by public transport was preferable to driving, data from 18,000 UK commuters over 10 years suggested.
Researchers said policies encouraging people to leave their cars at home could have a big impact on well-being.
The physical health benefits of exercise are already well known and this study reinforces the idea that there are positive psychological effects too.

Breaking News: Judge finds Oscar Pistorius not guilty of murder

 
Judge Masipa has read much of her judgement and she's just found Oscar Pistorius not guilty of murder. The judge said there were not enough facts to prove the most serious charge of pre-meditated murder. She said the case was based entirely on circumstantial evidence and dismissed the witness testimony. She said the witnesses were unreliable as they were confused when giving testimony and said most of what they said weren't accurate. She said even if Oscar was evasive with some facts, and was a 'very poor' witness, it doesn't mean he's guilty of murder.

Oscar Pistorious Murder Trial Verdict to be Delivered Today.

The final verdict on the Oscar Pistorious murder trial will be announced in a few hours.

Court proceedings are currently ongoing, the UK Telegraph reports.

You will recall that the paralympian star athlete is accused of killing his then girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on February 14th, 2013.

Although the verdict is expected to be delivered today, new reports indicate that it could possibly take days to reach the verdict.

Ebola: Doctors reject September 22 schools resumption date.

 

The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has rejected the Monday September 22nd resumption directive given by FG to all Primary and Secondary schools due to the Ebola outbreak in Nigeria.

The NMA speaking through its National Publicity Secretary, Dr Olawunmi Layaki, said they expect all schools to remain closed until December or early next year when all Ebola suspects under surveillance have been cleared and certified free of the virus. 

"We are not happy with this decision on the resumption of schools. Schools should be shut till the last suspected case or patient is certified free of the virus. We can shift the resumption date till next year or in the next three months if that is the time it will take.

Former President Obasanjo's son shot in Mubi by B - Haram!

Sahara Reporters is reporting that Boko Haram militants attacked a platoon led by the son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo,  They say he sustained serious injuries to his legs and was being transported to the hospital at the time of their report.

"Adeboye Obasanjo, an army engineer, was a Lieutenant Colonel at the 3rd Division in Jos, Plateau State.
