Jennifer Hudson says she has forgiven the man who killed her mother, brother and nephew in a 2008 rampage.
Opray Winfrey asked the actress during an interview whether she had found a way to forgive her sister's ex-husband William Balfour, and Jennifer replied: "Yes, because I feel like for the most part it's not his fault. It's how he was brought up. We tried to offer love but he was so far gone that he couldn't even see that."
"A lot of things came out that we didn't even know about, from his upbringing, which show he never had a chance."
The Dreamgirls star said that things might have been different if he had had a family like hers. "Had he had the love my mother gave us, or the background that some have, then he would've stood a chance," she continued.
William Balfour received three life sentences for the 2008 killings in July, and Jennifer said that with the court case over, she felt she could visit the graves of her family for the first time.
"I haven't been to the grave site since we buried them but now I want to go because I feel like, OK, we've accomplished things. We've done this. We got justice for you."
